Annette Jeukens

The fashion industry lies at the root of Annette Jeukens' textile work. She studied at the School of Fashion in Maastricht, the Netherlands, and complemented this with 3 years at Art School in the same city.
She still regards following workshops by international artists as vital for her learning process. She has been a teacher of patchwork, quilting and modern textile techniques for more than 20 years.
The last few years have seen Annette venturing more and more in the direction of art quilts as opposed to traditional work. Dyeing, painting, felting, discharging are but a few of the techniques she uses in her quest for creating original work. However, simple forms such as the square and the circle, keep reappearing.
Annette loves the world of fantasy and the Middle Ages...stories about knights, dragons, magicians and fairies inspire her work.

She says: "I use different materials to symbolise the characters, such as rich velvets for the knights or pearlescent glows and quilted flames for the dragons. Different materials are merged in the magician's hat and the elves conjure up a new world!".

Her work can be seen in:
